Inclusion and Equality at Wilstead

We welcome everyone at Wilstead. Our children learn about law and democracy, human rights and responsibilities. Our aim is to ensure that children leave Wilstead with kind, respectful and well-informed attitudes and behaviours, ready to take their place in our world as young citizens with much to contribute for the good of their community.

We follow and promote the guidance of the Equality Act 2010.

In this section, you will find useful resources for educating children on matters such as equity and equality, the rights of the child and the protected characteristics.

The Protected Characteristics

It is against the law to discriminate against anyone because of:

  • age
  • gender reassignment
  • being married or in a civil partnership
  • being pregnant or on maternity leave
  • disability
  • race including colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin
  • religion or belief
  • sex
  • sexual orientation

We teach our children to understand, respect and follow this guidance at age appropriate levels and also what to do should they feel that they or others have been discriminated against.

The Equally Safe Project

We worked with Bedford Borough and educational providers Equaliteach to develop a whole school project called Equally Safe. This focuses on educating children about the different types of bullying they might encounter, and what they can do about it. Please click on the link if you would like to know more.

Resources to support at home

Our parents support our inclusive practice by reinforcing the school's ethos and cultures. Here are some very useful clips and links for helping these important conversations to take place.
