Sports and Physical Education at Wilstead

Here at Wilstead, our vision is to develop a passion for movement amongst all pupils. We embed this by following the 'Get Set 4' P.E scheme to deliver our P.E provision. The scheme is carefully thought out to provide fun and engaging activities to develop children’s knowledge and skills as they journey through school.

We embed the P.E school games values into our curriculum and active school life. These are teamwork, passion, determination, self-belief, respect and honesty.

We are also a Healthy Living School, and we promote the NHS Five Steps to Mental Well-Being approach, which provides proactive suggestions that can support the mental health and well-being of both children and adults.

As part of this, to encourage our children to get the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity a day, every Tuesday lunchtime we have staff led activities and games. Not only will this improve the children's fundamental skills and positive social interactions, physical activity has also been proven to increase concentration, memory and improve creativity, muscle mass and bone and joint health.

Values Based Education in Physical Education

Wilstead is a Values Based Learning school, and PE is taught within the context of these values. We actively promote these values in schools to ensure our pupils leave school prepared for life in modern society.

The Values of Teamwork, Love, Honesty, Communication, Determination, Happiness and Respect underpin much of the PE curriculum. Many other opportunities are available through our physical curriculum and extra-curricular activities  which include Friendship, Family, Curiosity, Empathy and Fairness amongst others.

Our Behaviour Code is simple: Be Kind, Be Respectful, Work Hard. This helps us to teach and support the development of our pupils' character traits and personal beliefs. This will enable them to grow into happy, confident members of their community.

PE Topic Rotation. PE topics will now be on a rotation system ensuring children get a broad curriculum offer.
