Welcome to Wilstead Primary School, we hope you enjoy looking through our website and welcome any feedback you have. The Website will have content added regularly over the coming weeks so keep checking back.
Mathematics is a tool for everyday life. It is a whole network of concepts and relationships which provide a way of viewing and making sense of the world. It is used to analyse and communicate information and ideas and to tackle a range of practical tasks and real life problems. It also provides the materials and means for creating new imaginative worlds to explore.
Using the Programmes of Study from the National Curriculum 2014, it is our aim to develop:
Since 2021, Wilstead Primary School has followed the White Rose Maths Scheme.
Why White Rose?
We chose White Rose because this ensures that all parts of the National Curriculum 2014 Programme of Study are taught, including maths in the Early Years Foundation stage. Our teachers also refer to the DFE / NCETM ‘Ready to progress’ materials to assist with this and have the autonomy to use White Rose Mastery Planning, along with other enrichment activities to enhance the curriculum as they see fit.
EYFS and KS1
We recommend downloading the FREE White Rose app 'One minute maths' for all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. The models and images used are the same as we us in class. Regular use will help improve your child's fluency and ability to manipulate number with confidence... and each game only lasts one minute!
KS1 and KS2
As a school we have a paid subscription to 'My Maths.' Teachers can use this to set math homework and it is a good tool if children wish to recap and consolidate their learning at home.
For Year 2 through to Year 6 we also have a subscription to Times Tables Rock Stars. This is a valuable tool for ensuring children become competent in knowing their times tables at speed, which is assessed through the official Multiplication Tables Check during Year 4.
