We plan and deliver our KS2 MfL curriculum using the Twinkl PlanIt French resources, and supplement this using Purple Mash activities and resources.

Why Twinkl PlanIt?

PlanIt French offers a carefully planned sequence of lessons, ensuring progressive coverage of the skills outlined by the Languages Programme of Study. 

Our chosen themes provide an introduction to the culture of French-speaking countries and communities. We aim to foster children’s enthusiasm, curiosity and help deepen their understanding of the world. Our curriculum has been chosen to allow opportunity for children to gradually build on their skills.

In Lower KS2, children acquire basic skills and understanding of French with a strong emphasis placed on developing their Speaking and Listening skills. These will be embedded and further developed in Upper KS2, alongside Reading and Writing, gradually progressing onto more complex language concepts and greater learner autonomy.

The values of Communication, Respect, Curiousity and Acceptance have particular weight within the MFL curriculum, which supports children to work together, respect each others' contributions and have exposure to different cultures and ways of life.

Children also the opportunity to discuss their understanding of the values of Family, Friendship and Motivation as they learn more about the French culture, language and their own wider opportunities.
