Geography
Wilstead follows the National Curriculum Programme of Study in Geography, using the Twinkl Planit resources to support teaching and learning, supplemented with resources and activities from Purple Mash. Structuring a curriculum that allows for skills to be taught sequentially and teaching knowledge that develops a broader, deeper understanding of the four key areas:
Locational Knowledge
Place Knowledge
Human and Physical Geography
Geographical skills and Fieldwork
Wilstead's intention is to develop children’s curiosity and a fascination of the world and its people, animals and habitats that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. The units studied offer a range of opportunities for investigating places around the world, as well as physical and human processes. They progressively build upon children’s geographical vocabulary, map skills and geographical facts and provide opportunities for consolidation, challenge and variety to ensure interest and progress in the subject from Year 1 through to Year 6.
